Wendy Gray, organized Sisters Integrating Staying Together Always Surviving (S.I.S.T.A.S.) in 1999 at Malcolm X Elementary School. While teaching in the District of Columbia Public School System, she experienced first-hand, the challenges that many of our young girls face. Mrs. Gray developed S.I.S.T.A.S. to empower and motivate young girls, and finds it very important for every young girl to receive personal love and attention. Upon leaving the classrooms, she found the urgent need to continue helping young girls, while implementing this program into the community. Mrs. Gray’s goal is to aid in the decrease of teen pregnancy, school dropout rate, and juvenile delinquency. Mrs. Gray’s well-rounded background and expertise has allowed her to competently develop and enhance character, self-esteem, self-identity, and etiquette in young girls. In efforts to help our youth to find positive options in life, Mrs. Gray teaches expressions of love through music, dance, writings, art and drama. Mrs. Gray serves as a role model, big sister, mother and friend to members of S.I.S.T.A.S.

Born and raised in Washington, DC, Wendy Gray attended DC Public Schools. In 1990, she graduated from Eastern Senior High School, where she achieved great academic success.

Growing up in Southeast, Washington can be very challenging for many of today’s youth; but she optimistically overcame many of those challenges. She encourages young people to do the same, by becoming a leader and setting goals for the future. While in high school, many opportunities arose for her. She had the opportunity to sing for the Presidents of the United States and television specials. From her experiences, Mrs. Gray helps young people to see their potential, and to exceed beyond their personal expectations.

In 1994 and 1995, Mrs. Gray’s benevolence gained her "Miss Congeniality" awards in the "Miss D.C." and "Miss D.C. USA" Pageants, where she also reigned as runner-up in both pageants. By entering these pageants, Mrs. Gray learned that "beauty" is intelligence, self-esteem and character, instead of outward appearances. Mrs. Gray is a proud alumnus of Howard University, where she earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. These educational experiences promote her willingness to want other young people to further their education beyond high school, and to give back to their community. The ‘beauty’ of S.I.S.T.A.S. is LOVE (Learning Opportunities Values Everlasting)!

On September 23, 2000, Wendy united as one with her wonderful husband Eric. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Erindy.
