What is S.I.S.T.A.S. Mission and Goal?

S.I.S.T.A.S. mission is to provide educational, mentoring, and outreach services to girls in grades 4 through 12, which will focus on real life issues to increase self-esteem and morals. S.I.S.T.A.S. introduces positive influences, the motivation to achieve and help to develop character and confidence. S.I.S.T.A.S. goal is to decrease teen pregnancy, school drop-out rate, and juvenile delinquency.

What group will S.I.S.T.A.S. target?

S.I.S.T.A.S. target school-age girls, who need guidance and a positive influence to help them overcome the many issues that they are faced with on a daily basis. S.I.S.T.A.S. also target girls who are at risk of becoming teen mothers, high school drop-outs and prison inmates.

What are the expected outcomes?

After successful completion of this program, S.I.S.T.A.S. members should have higher self-esteem, be positive role models, show improved behavior, attitude and academics, respect self and community, abstain from sex, drugs, and alcohol, show mature behavior and etiquette in public, and further education beyond high school.

What makes the S.I.S.T.A.S. Mentoring Program different from other programs?

S.I.S.T.A.S. works very closely with its members providing each individual with the love and attention that they may lack at home. S.I.S.T.A.S. serve as big sisters, mothers and friends. We establish relationships that are comfortable and effective.

S.I.S.T.A.S. members are taught to express themselves through writings, song, dance, music, art and drama.

There is a great need for a program such as S.I.S.T.A.S., not only to prevent teen pregnancy, but also to build character, leadership, self-esteem, goals and respect among our young girls. This program has helped many young girls to make positive changes in their academics, behavior, community, and home.

Mentors are required to commit a minimum of 3 hours per month to the organization.

Why we care?

Many young girls who grow up in the inner city, are exposed to many negative influences such as teen pregnancy, drugs, alcohol abuse, school drop-out, sex, crime, violence, and poverty. Often times, those young girls lack guidance, respect, and self-esteem. Many see no hope for the future. Having witnessed these attitudes and influences, it is important that we take on a leadership role and change lives for a bright and positive future.

We build comfortable relationships, so that members can trust and depend on their mentors. We provide more than just mentoring. We UPLIFT and EMPOWER young people.
