Sisters Integrating Staying Together Always Strong (S.I.S.T.A.S.) was founded in 1999, at Malcom X Elementary School, under the guidance of Princella Hemby, Assistant Principal, and Wendy Gray. The S.I.S.T.A.S. members then changed the name to Sisters Integrating Staying Together Always Surviving in 2001. Upon leaving the classroom, Wendy Gray found the urgent need to continue helping young girls, while implementing this program into other schools and throughout the community.

S.I.S.T.A.S. is designed to motivate, guide, uplift, raise self-esteem, and give support. We serve as role models, big sisters, and mentors. S.I.S.T.A.S. work together to support and uplift one another. We believe that is important to show that no matter what the circumstances, with hard work and determination success emerges.

Members of S.I.S.T.A.S. are introduced and taught how to be a young lady. We focus on the development of public conduct, conflict resolution, leadership, respect, attitude, health and hygiene, self-esteem, self-identity, teen pregnancy prevention, etiquette and community service.

S.I.S.T.A.S. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which services and collaborates with organizations, educational institutions, churches, government agencies and corporations.

If you are interested in becoming one of our dedicated members or volunteers, or would like to make a contribution, please contact our office.
