In The Beginning

I have always loved rabbits! I had a rabbit when I was younger. His name was Smokie. He was so cute! I had a lot of fun with him. He lived for five years. When he died, I cried for about a week. My father said I could not have any more pets because I cried too much when Smokie died.

My love for bunnies did not die though. I promised myself that when I was on my own that I would get a bunny of my own! That's just what I did.

Now's the Time

On March 21st, 1997 I brought home an eight week old Golden Boy. He was, and is, SO cute!!! We had a wonderful time getting to know each other. About a year later, a friend of mine made me feel guilty that Golden Boy did not have a playmate. I hold him that Golden Boy had me, but he was quick to counter that it was not the same as if he had a bunny playmate.

Two?

Diamond Lynn and Golden BoySo, my search started. I came across the House Rabbit Society MD/DC/NoVA Chapter, and learned of their bunny introductions and bunny bondings. I took Golden Boy to the next scheduled event to find a wife! There he met lots of bunnies, and he did not seem to be interested in any of them! He did somewhat peek at one of them out of the corner of his eye. Her name was Allie, whom we eventually brought home and named Diamond Lynn. She and Golden Boy were immediately married in the Court of Dana on September 23, 1997.

What an education!

I have learned so much about bunnies over the years. Golden Boy and Diamond Lynn are WELL taken care of! I think that is why they have lived as long as they have. They have more than earned their names. If there is another bunny to come, it will be named Copper!

I love Golden Boy and Diamond Lynn so much! I'm sure they love me, too. I know I will cry when they leave me, too. Hopefully I won't cry for a week, but I wouldn't be surprised if I do! But the one thing that will NEVER die, is my love for bunnies!!!

Last night, Golden Boy seemed to be in distress. I'm not sure what was going on with him, but when I woke up today, he had gone on to be at rest. I will miss him terribly. He was the cutest bunny in the world to me, even in death. I know he had a good life, and that makes me glad - to know that I had an instrumental part in making his life the wonderful one that it was. He lived to be eight years and almost seven months old, which is old for a bunny. He definitely would not have lived that long in the wild. I have not cried yet, but I know the tears will come. I have many wonderful memories to console me.

Thank you, Golden Boy, for sharing your life with me! Diamond Lynn, your daddy, grandparents, and all whose lives you touched will remember you with love for years to come!

After a short bout with kidney disease and severe arthritis, Diamond Lynn passed away. Diamond was always a fiesty bunny. Her strong will enabled her to successfully overcome the kidney disease. Just two weeks prior to her passing she received a report from Dr. Stahl that her levels were back within normal ranges. However, the arthritis and complications from arthritis were too much for her to overcome.

Diamond Lynn lived to be nine years and five months old, which is awesome for a bunny her size. I have so many wonderful memories of her. She will be missed more than she could ever know.

Thank you, Diamond Lynn, for sharing your life with me! Your daddy, grandparents, and all whose lives you touched will remember you with love for years to come!
